  • Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs).

Trizivir is an anti-HIV medication. It is in a category of HIV medicines called Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs). Trizivir prevents HIV from entering the nucleus of healthy T-cells. This prevents the cells from producing new virus and decreases the amount of virus in the body. Trizivir is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

Combivir is a combination of lamivudi (la-MIV-u-deen) and zidovudine (ai-DOHV-u-deen), two medicines (nucleoside analogues) that slow down the replication of the HIV virus. This can reduce the virus’ ability to infect new cells. It may help lower the amount of HIV in your body (called “viral load”) and raise your CD4 (T) cell count. Lamivudine plus zidovudine when used together can have stronger (synergistic) effects against the virus. COMBIVIR is a convenient way of taking lamivudine and zidovudine. COMBIVIR should usually be taken with other anti-HIV therapy. COMBIVIR is also marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

Epivir is a brand name for lamivudi, a synthetic nucleoside analogue with activity against hepatitis B Virus and HIV. Lamivudine was initially developed for the treatment of HIV infection. Epivir is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

Hivid is the Hoffman La-Roche brand of zalcitabine, a synthetic pyrimidine nucleoside analogue active against the human immunodeficiency virius (HIV).

Retrovir, also known as Zidovudine, was the first drug approved for the treatment of HIV. Retrovir is an anti-HIV treatment in a class of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). The body breaks down these drugs into chemicals that stop HIV from infecting uninfected cells in the body, but they do not help cells that have already been infected with the virus. As people with HIV lose T4 cells - one of the immune systems main defenses - they become more likely to get infections and illnesses. Retrovir is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

Videx belongs to a class of drugs called nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). When taken along with other HIV medicines, didanosine can reduce the growth of virus inside your body. Controlling the amount of HIV in your body is the best way for you to fight HIV. Videx is marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.

Viread is the brand name for tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (a prodrug of tenofovir) which is a fumaric acid salt of bis-isopropoxycarbonyloxymethyl ester derivative of tenofovir. Tenofovir exhibits activity against HIV-1 reverse transcriptase.
Viread is Produced by Gilead Sciences.

Zerit belongs to a class of drugs called nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). When taken along with other HIV medicines, ZERIT® can reduce the growth of virus inside your body. Controlling the amount of HIV in your body is the best way for you to fight HIV. Zerit is marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.

Ziagen is the brand name for abacavir sulfate, a synthetic carbocyclic nucleoside analogue with inhibitory activity against HIV. It is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.

    Protease Inhibitors

Agenerase is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease. Agenerase is used in combination with other medications for the treatment of HIV, and is a marketed product of GlaxoSmithKline.

Norvir is a protease inhibitor that can slow down the development of the AIDS virus. It can also help people who have advanced HIV infection live longer. Norvir is developed by Abbot Laboratories.

Crixivan is a drug that when used in combination with your other HIV medicines, works by stopping the virus from making copies of itself. It helps to lower your viral load, and it helps your body make more CD4 cells to help you fight infections. Crixivan is marketed by Merck & Co.,Inc..

Fortovase is a protease inhibitor of the HIV virus. Protease inhibitors lower the bodys viral load, and increases the number of disease-fighting CD4 (T) cells within your immune system. Fortovase is given together with other anti-HIV drugs such as AZT (also known as ZDV), Hivid (zalcitabine, ddC) and 3TC. Fortovase is developed by Roche Laboratories.

Invirase brand of saquinavir mesylate is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease. HIV protease cleaves viral polyprotein precursors to generate functional proteins in HIV-infected cells. The cleavage of viral polyprotein precursors is essential for maturation of infectious virus. Saquinavir mesylate, henceforth referred to as saquinavir, is a synthetic peptide-like sybstrate analogue that inhibits the activity of HIV protease and prevents the cleavage of viral polyproteins. Invirase is developed by Roche Laboratories.

Kaletra is an inhibitor of the HIV protease developed by Abbot Laboratories. Kaletra is a co-formulation of lopinavir and ritonavir. As co-formulated in Kaletra, ritonavir inhibits the CYP3A-mediated metabolism of lopinavir, thereby providing increased plasma levels of lopinavir.

Viracept is a protease inhibitor used to fight HIV, and keep the virus from reproducing in your body. This drives your viral load down and allows your immune system to rebound. Viracept is marketed by Agouron Pharmaceuticals.

    Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors

Rescriptor is an anti-HIV medication. It is in a category of HIV medicines called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Rescriptor prevents HIV from entering the nucleus of healthy T-cells. This prevents the cells from producing new HIV and decreases the amount of virus in the body. Rescriptor is marketed by Agouron Pharmaceuticals.

Sustiva is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.

Viramune is the brand name for nevirapine (NVP), a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor with activity against Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1). Nevirapine is structurally a member of the dipyridodiazepinone chemical class of compounds. Viramune is marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim.
